Vapor Intrusion Remediation and Mitigation

Vapor intrusion (VI) occurs when there is a migration of vapor-forming chemicals from any subsurface source into an overlying building. In extreme cases, the vapors may accumulate in dwellings or occupied buildings to levels that may pose near-term safety hazards (e.g., explosion) and/or acute health effects (e.g., headaches, nausea, itchy eyes, throat irritation).

A Practical Approach to Vapor Intrusion Challenges

Over the last 20 years, ERG has helped hundreds of property owners prevent or clean up vapor intrusion challenges. We understand that there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution. We find the most practical and effective solutions based on the specific circumstances of your building or project. Our solutions may include one, or a combination of, these tools in order to ensure the safety of your buildings and its future occupants:

Identifying and sealing openings

Installing vapor barriers (“geomembrane”)

Pouring a new concrete slab

Venting

Building Pressurization

Sub-slab depressurization
